When writing a delivery driver CV template, you should pay careful attention to the advert. Here are some things that employers in this industry might want to know about which you should include on your CV and covering letter:
- Past experience in this type of role, if any.
- Clean driving licence (or a maximum number of points as specified by the employer).
- Any advanced driving courses you have completed.
- Experience driving particular types/weights of vehicle.
- B2B or B2C/specific types of clients experience (i.e. delivering to residential, commercial, schools, restaurants, government, banking, healthcare etc).
- Ability to maintain the vehicle/perform basic checks.
- Fitness and health/ability to lift, load and unload.
- Appreciation for great customer service.
- Your availability.
Do not worry if you don’t have anything to write for every point above. Many delivery services will hire drivers with no experience, provided that they enjoy driving and are safe behind the wheel! If you have no paid experience at all, you could mention any other driving experience in your profile/covering letter – for example:
Although I have no commercial experience as a driver, I enjoy driving and travel all over the UK in my spare time. I hold a full clean driving licence, I have completed the Pass-Plus and I have never had any points on my licence.

FAQs
Yes, if the category matters for the vacancy. Be precise about the licence entitlement you actually hold rather than simply writing "full driving licence". This is particularly important where the employer specifies a particular vehicle class or licence requirement.
Include relevant systems you have genuinely used, such as handheld scanners, electronic proof-of-delivery systems, route-planning software, delivery apps or vehicle tracking systems. These practical skills can be especially useful for experienced multi-drop and courier drivers.
Look beyond your basic duties. Useful evidence might include consistently completing a demanding delivery round, maintaining a strong punctuality or safety record, receiving good customer feedback, training new drivers, reducing failed deliveries or taking responsibility for particularly busy routes. Only use figures or performance claims that you can support.
List it as self-employed work rather than making it look like conventional employment. Explain the scale of the operation and the responsibilities you handled yourself, which might include route planning, vehicle organisation, deliveries, customer communication and administration. Running your own workload can provide useful evidence of reliability and self-management.
Be accurate and never describe your licence as clean if it is not. Whether you need to state endorsements on the CV itself will depend on the employer and the vacancy; some adverts specify an acceptable number of points or ask for licence information during the application process. Answer any such questions truthfully.
Only where it is relevant. Some jobs provide a company vehicle, while others require drivers to use their own. If a vacancy specifically requires access to a suitable vehicle, make it clear that you meet that requirement. There is normally no need to fill your CV with vehicle details that the employer has not asked for.
Change the emphasis rather than sending exactly the same CV each time. A multi-drop vacancy may place more value on route organisation, parcel volumes and proof-of-delivery systems, while another driving role may care more about a particular vehicle type, customer contact or handling goods. Let the advert determine which parts of your experience receive the most space.
